Artie Mae “Tience” Hicks, 75, a resident of Athens and formerly of Cleveland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2014, at her home.

Tience was born in Athens on June 20, 1939, a daughter of the late Joe Van and Mable Hicks. She loved fishing but above loved all her family and spending time with them.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers: Kenneth Hicks, Jerry Hicks, Claude Hicks, Harry Butch Hicks and Roger Hicks; and five sisters: Divida Hicks, Joyce Jones, Carrie King, June Miller and Linda Lunsford.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory one son, James Ricky Hicks; stepdaughter, Cynthia Palmer; brother, Larry Hicks; several special nieces and nephews; special friends, Bobby and Nina McNabb; several other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A graveside service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Slacks Chapel Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Bill Hicks officiating.
