Cleveland Police Department detectives have established the identity of a suspect they believe was involved in several area church burglaries.

According to Interim Lt. Matt Jenkins of CPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, they hope to track the suspect down today.

South Cleveland United Methodist Church and North Cleveland Baptist Church were hit by burglars overnight Tuesday, according to officials at the Cleveland Police Department. Saint Therese Catholic Church has been burglarized twice in the past few days.

Jenkins said he and investigator Bill Parks are heading up the search for a suspect involved in the rash of church burglaries.

Jenkins said the burglars are going after cash, which is typically locked away in church offices.

Late Wednesday morning, CPD officials were able to capture an image of the suspect from a security camera.

Jenkins said early today that he and Parks will be pursuing the leads to locate the suspect who has now been identified through the security camera image.

Additional information will be reported as it is made available.
