ENGLEWOOD — The Walker Valley Lady Mustangs’ trip to McMinn Central on Thursday proved to be a highly successful one Thursday evening.

While the Lady Mustangs were expected to be the underdogs on the pitch, they were able to quiet the doubters after topping the Chargerettes 6-1.

“I am extremely proud of the girls,” declared Walker Valley coach Nate Brown. “The way we played and adapted to the game was great. McMinn were doing something in the first 15 minutes that made it hard but the way the our team modified to the game was fantastic. It was a night when everything went right.”

Last season, McMinn Central went 12-8-3 and reached the A-AA Sectional.

The Lady Mustangs seemed unphased by the Chargerettes’ reputation though.

After starting out with an intense back and forth match, Walker Valley was able to take solid possession of the ball.

Taylor Ellis, a freshmen forward, got the goal scoring started for the Lady Mustangs, with an assist by senior captain Allyson Flock.

Ellis also knocked in a quick second and third goal with assists by senior Ashley Wright and freshman Caitlin Dickson respectively.

This match marked the second consecutive three-goal outing for Ellis.

The fourth Walker Valley goal came from sophomore Jade Mayo.

Sophomore Brianna Wisti got the fifth goal, with an assist by sophomore Mya Patel.

Patel got in on the scoring as well, notching the sixth and final goal for the Lady Mustangs.

“Defense, midfield and offense worked well, even our set pieces were on point,” Brown commented. “Now we just have to keep this momentum going as it is going to get even tougher within the next couple of weeks moving in to district play.”

Walker Valley hosts the Chattanooga Patriots Tuesday at 6 p.m.
