NEARLY 300 Boy Scouts from across the Ocoee District gathered in Delano this weekend for their annual Great Hiwassee River Raft Race. The troops enjoy a variety of camping events while staying at Gee Creek Campground with Saturday’s race highlighting the event. The boats are made by the scouts using wood or bamboo and lashings to hold them together. They compete in three categories: Scout Skills, Design and Fastest Time down the river from Hiwasse Outfitters in Reliance to the 411 boat take out. A Best Overall and Scout Spirit award are given out as well.
