Albert E. Gruhl, 80, of Charleston, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, in a Chattanooga health care facility.
He retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 39 years of service.
He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict in Japan. He was a member of the Mended Hearts Organization in Iowa. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Katherine Moderi Gruhl.
Survivors include his companion of 30 years, Mary F. Smith of Cleveland; children: Catherine Kany of Clearwater, Fla., Barry Gruhl and wife, Debbie, of Moline, Ill. and Cari Bosserdet and husband, Jim, of Old Fort; five grandchildren: Brittany Gruhl, Maggie Gruhl, Bo Bosserdet, Jenna Bosserdet and Catlin Ashenfelter; eight siblings: Joann Randolph of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Charles Gruhl of Toledo, Wash., Lee Meyer of Stockton, Iowa, Merilu Bivens of Davenport, Iowa, Dee McKernie of Garden Grove, Calif., Bonnie Peterson of Brigham City, Utah, Richard Gruhl of LeClaire, Iowa and Carol Heath of East Moline, Ill.; and the mother of his children, Sue Navratil of Old Fort.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert L. Smith officiating.
Memorials may be made to their favorite church or Bradley County Schools in memory of Albert Gruhl.
