James A. Johnson, 88, a resident of Cleveland passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010, in a local hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Vaughn Johnson and Robert Johnson; infant daughter, Mildred June Johnson; brother, Calvin Johnson; sisters: Edna Maples, Beatrice Drinnon, Anna Lou DeVries and Marie Burns.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years and loved working on car engines. He also loved his family very much.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Huffine Johnson of Cleveland; three daughters: Gwen Samples and her husband, Ronald, of Cleveland, Brenda Johnson of Cleveland, and Nancy Norman and her husband, William, of Rossville, Ga.; two sons: Jack E. Johnson of Cleveland, and Robert “Gene” Johnson of Chattanooga; 11 grandchildren: Lisa Johnson, Jackie Johnson, Cody Johnson, Joe Samples, John Samples, Victoria Norman, Christopher Norman, and Seth, Shane, Nathanial, and Nicholus Oswalt; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today, May 20, 2010, from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Richard McKeehan officiating.

The body will be cremated.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
