Dr. Trish McClung, assistant professor of special education at Lee University, has been selected as the winner of the Excellence in Advising Award for 2010.

The Excellence Awards are the highest honors presented to Lee faculty members. The recipient of this award is chosen by a faculty committee, which reviews a three-year history of student advisor evaluation data as well as other information provided by the nominating department chairs and deans.

McClung teaches a variety of courses at Lee as well as graduate courses in human development and exceptionalities and in classroom management. She has traveled extensively to other countries, particularly Ukraine, where she directed cross-cultural experiences for Lee students.

She worked as a coordinator for students with disabilities for Project Head Start and as a special education teacher in her local school system, both for seven years. She was Teacher of the Year for her county in 1999, grades 4-8, and received teaching excellence recognition statewide.

“I am proud of her outstanding performance as an advisor of students, and congratulate her on the special recognition,” said Dr. Paul Conn, who recognized the Excellence Award winners at Lee’s recent spring commencement.

McClung was awarded her doctorate, Ed.D by research in the field of special education in 2006, through the renowned Center for Applied Research and Education at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. She also holds a B.Ed. degree from the University of London in Education, Religion and Philosophy and received her license to teach special education in the U.S. and her M.Ed. degree (special education emphasis) from Lee University.
