Michael Palmer of Oklahoma City has been named recipient of the Phil Mickelson Award presented by the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation as the most outstanding freshman in NAIA men’s golf.
Palmer had three victories this season, including a win at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship. He had three other finishes inside the top 10 and helped his Oklahoma City squad to the NAIA National Championship.
Eksteen of Lee, Our Lady of the Lakes’s Aaron Flores, Sam Holland of Victoria, and Lucas Morande of Hannibal-LaGrange join Palmer on the All-Freshmen team.
“I was very happy to hear that JB will receive recognition for his good play this season,” said Lee coach John Maupin. ”He had a very good spring, that included several impressive rounds. Also, I believe this marks the first time that we have ever had a player named to the prestigious all-freshmen team, only six players make the team, so that is quite an accomplishment. JB is very deserving of these two honors. Also, this is the second year in a row that we have had a player named to an NAIA All-American team, this is certainly a streak that we would like to continue.”
