Grace Cannon Womac, 88, of Athens, died Saturday morning, June 19, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Dr. W. Fred and Dorothy Medlin Cannon. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mae C. Logan; and three brothers: Carl Cannon, Raymond Cannon, and Dr. Calvin Cannon.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
She was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and East Tennessee State University. She taught school, in Cleveland, Florida, and Athens, retiring after 35 years of service with most of those years spent teaching at City Park Elementary School in Athens.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Womac of Athens; sisters and brother-in-law; Nell C. Mackey of Cleveland and Hazel C. and Jimmy Johnson of Athens; brother; Clarence Cannon of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters-in-law: Sally Cannon of Alcoa and Flora Cannon of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Don Bradford officiating.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Womac Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
