Nicholas Lillios has been making a lot of renovation noise over the past seven months.

Lillios, the owner of the Spot restaurant, recently completed renovations to the second and third floors of the downtown building.

“The second floor will be used as a banquet hall and the third floor, the top, has been turned into a luxury loft apartment,” said Lillios.

The Spot building was built in the early 1930s.

This will be the first loft apartment in Cleveland which will be available for the public to rent.

“We have other nice lofts here but they are privately owned and lived in,” said Lillios.

The loft is a 2,000 square-foot, two-bedroom and one-and-a-half bath apartment. The apartment has an open living area and kitchen. The master bedroom is a large, 20-by-20 foot bedroom with a walk-in closet which adjoins the laundry facility.

“We gutted the inside but we restored the original hardwood flooring, kept the original windows and bannisters. We maintained the beautiful skylight. We did a lot of behind the scenes structural work. If you have a good structure, the building can go another 100 years,” he said.

Lillios said the loft will be most suitable for a business professional.

The banquet hall can be used for a variety of purposes including wedding receptions, reunions, large business meetings and Christmas parties. It was used for the first time since the renovation Monday by members of MainStreet Cleveland.

Just down the street from the Spot, Brandon Moore has also been busy with renovations.

Moore is the owner of the former Diamond Lil’s restaurant. The restaurant is now called N.O.L.A., in reference to New Orleans, La., where Moore is originally from. The restaurant is located in the former Craigmiles Opera Hall.

“We’ve done a lot of work, a lot of renovations. We’re really looking forward to being a part of the downtown, historic community,” said Moore.
