Harold A. “Gus” Lippard, answered the summons of his Maker on Saturday, June 19, 2010.

He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Iredell County, N.C., to Jesse Monroe Lippard and Florence Augusta Troutman Lippard and came to Cleveland in 1952.

He owned and operated Lippard Propane Service for many years.

He retired from the liquefied petroleum gas industry in 1986.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, who served aboard the USS Franklin, “The Ship That Wouldn’t Die.” He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and a Letter of Personal Commendation from Adm. Wm F. Halsey. He was recalled to service in the Korean War.

He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and the Kelley Sunday school class, the VFW, American Legion and a lifetime member of BPOE 1944. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Tennessee LP Gas Association.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lois; daughter, Carol Dorst and her husband, Mike, of Sarasota, Fla.; granddaughter, Leslie Garbis and her husband, Evangelos, of Hollywood, Fla.; grandson, Ryan Dorst of Breckenridge, Colo.; great-grandson, Evangelos “Evan” Garbis of Hollywood, Fla.; brother, Joe Lippard of Wilson, Va.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debbie Stokes and the Rev. Reed Shell officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kelley Sunday school class.

A Military Honor Guard will be held at the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 30, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
