He was a member of the Meigs County Church of Christ.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Wilson and Katherine (Tucker) Combs; brothers: Jessie, J.C., Titus and Robert Combs; sisters: Nola Combs Roe and Ruby Combs Verceloti.
Survivors include his lovely wife of 64 years, Betty Combs of Decatur; son, Ed Combs of Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Don Brogden of Calhoun; three grandchildren: Carroll and Tambra Combs, April and Danny Green and LT. Gary Redman; one great-grandchild, Cayci Combs; step-grandchildren: Toby and Johnna Brogden and Tabatha and Jody McCammon; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Rymer officiating.
Interment will be in Beta Cemetery at 11 a.m., Wednesday.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Combs, Danny Green, Toby Brogden, Walter Hickman, Kermitt Grissom and Wayne Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be LT. Gary Redman, Paul Erwin, Jim Taylor and Ronnie Moore.
Grandson, LT. Gary Redman, has followed in his Papaw’s footsteps and is serving our great nation in the Persian Gulf at this time and is unable to attend the service.
