The Athens Area Council for the Arts announces “The Art of The Portrait,” a juried art competition and exhibit, will be held at The Arts Center, 320 N. White St. in Athens from Nov. 3 to Dec. 31. More than $1,500.00 in prize money will be awarded in four divisions: high school, college, open and photography.

The competition is open to anyone residing in McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Polk, and Bradley counties, regardless of artistic experience or expertise, and all are encouraged to participate.

There will be a first, second, and third place cash prize awarded in each division as well as a Best in Show award and a People’s Choice Award. A new award this year is sponsored by the Community Artists League. Called the “Looking to the Future” award, it will go to a promising high school student who shows a high quality of work and creativity in their approach to the subject.
