Gage Brakebill places in Aspen Grove event
A young Cleveland golfer placed among the top 10 recently in the Toyota Junior golf playoffs in Franklin.
Gage Brakebill, the 9-year-old son of Nick and Amanda Brakebill of Cleveland, finished in seventh place in this year’s season-ending event at the little Course on Conner Lane in Franklin.
The young golfer’s finish was twice as good as a 14th-place finish a year ago in this tournament.
Brakebill, a fourth-grade student at Michigan Avenue Elementary School, participated on the Toyota Junior Golf Tour this year. He had to participate in a minimum of four regional tournaments to qualify for the final event ... the Aspen Grove Challenge.
He played in five regional events and was ranked 17th out of 58 boys in the 8-9 Micro Division. Only 18 boys were invited to the Challenge in Franklin.
Brakebill shot a 39-32 on Saturday, ending with a birdie putt on the ninth hole to move up two groups in pairings for Sunday’s round of play.
He recorded a 34-34 on Sunday for an aggregate total of 139 for the two days of play in the 36-hole Challenge on the par-3 course. His score was good for seventh place, only three shots out of fourth place.
