Lee golf coach John Maupin has added Matt Sanders and Jayne Curtis-Maupin to his 2010-11 coaching staff. Sanders will serve as men’s assistant, while his wife, Curtis-Maupin, will assist with the women’s program.

The twosome will replace Will Campbell, who has accepted a basketball assistant’s position at Walker Valley High School. “I am very grateful to Will for all that he has done to help me during our first two years here at Lee,” said the Lee head coach. “We have developed a good friendship and he has been a big part of our success over the last two years.”

Sanders is a veteran Lee coach who will continue to head up the men’s basketball junior varsity program and also serve on the women’s basketball staff as an assistant under coach Marty Rowe.

“I have gotten to know Matt very well during my time at Lee,” said Maupin. “That being said, it almost feels like he has been a part of the golf team for a long time. He has spent time playing with our players over the last year, so he already has established good relationships with the team."

Maupin added, “Coach Sanders is an experienced tournament golfer who is very knowledgeable of the game. I am really looking forward to having him on our trips. I think he can be a tremendous asset to our players on the course. Matt is a great coach and I am excited about working with him to continue the success of our program.”

In NAIA women’s golfing circles, Curtis-Maupin is known as one of the nation’s best. “Jayne is going to be a tremendous addition to our women’s golf program,” said the Lee head coach. “She enjoyed an outstanding career at Berry College, where she was the most decorated player in the program’s history. “

Curtis-Maupin’s resume consists of two state championships in high school; being named a three-time NAIA All-American; winning several collegiate tournaments titles; and competing in three NAIA National Tournaments.

“Not only is Jayne an excellent player, she is also a great teacher of the game,” stressed coach Maupin. “There is no doubt that she will be a big asset when it comes to player development. Jayne has an excellent understanding of the goals of our women’s program and will do everything she can to help us achieve them.”
