STILL A CAT — Swapping from a Cougar to a Lion, former Cleveland State softball standout Joanie Goodner has signed to play for the inaugural Bryan College team. Present for the signing were, seated from left, grandmother Lucille Posey, Goodner, former CSCC coach Suzanne Bayne; standing, current CS head coach Katie Willingham and Bryan head coach Rocky Stinson.
The former Chattanooga Central Lady Pounders has patrolled the Lady Cougar middle infield for the past two years and will now join the new softball program at the Dayton school.
“It is close to home and I am excited about being part of a first-year program,” Goodner recently expressed. “That’s something I will always remember.”
“I am also excited to continue playing with BT (Brittany Tipton, another former Lady Cougar who signed with Bryan College earlier in the year),” she stated. “We have played together for eight years now, it’s great to get to keep it going”
“This is a great opportunity for Joanie both academically and athletically,” commented former Cleveland State head coach Suzanne Bayne. “She has worked hard to put herself in this position. I look forward to seeing her continue to grow as a player and person.”
Having batted .257 with 59 hits in 230 at bats the past two years, Goodner also scored 51 runs and drove in 23.
“Joanie gives us experience in the middle of our defense and also another lefty in our lineup,” remarked Bryan head coach Rocky Stinson. “She should come in and take a leadership role, joining a couple of other transfers with several freshmen starters. With her addition it puts the final pieces to our program as we head into fall season just two weeks away.”
