A local family will hold the funeral today of a loved one who died in a single-vehicle crash in Maury County during the weekend.

Benny Ray Lawson, 36, was the final member of his immediate family to die tragically, according to his uncle, Chester Moore.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to U.S. Highway 431 Saturday evening and found a 1998 Mustang had overturned, ejecting the driver.

Investigators determined Lawson was the only person in the car at the time of the crash and according to reports, he had lost control of the car, leaving the roadway and overturning.

He was apparently not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to THP reports.

Moore said Lawson had moved to the Nashville area about a year ago.

“He worked for me for several years before moving to Goodlettsville,” said Moore.

Lawson was preceded in his death by his father, stepfather, mother and brother.

According to Moore, David Craig, Lawson’s stepfather, was murdered in 1989; his mother, Denise Craig, died three years ago; and his younger brother, John David Craig, also died as the result of a tragic car crash in Bradley County last year.

Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the funeral.
