The Rev. R.T. Roberts, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, and met his Savior face-to-face and was reunited in Heaven with his parents, Oscar and Polly Roberts; brother, Milburn K Roberts (wife Margaret), sister Mildred McBee (husband Robin) and many other friends and family.

During this life he exemplified an unwavering faith and testimony of God’s love and salvation. While serving as an Air Force staff sergeant in Korea, he surrendered to the Lord’s calling on his life to preach the Gospel. After serving as the postmaster of Corryton, he then became an evangelist and pastor to 11 congregations in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.

His passion for studying and teaching various books of the Bible was another gift for which he will long be remembered.

He also served as a founding trustee of Mid-America Theological Seminary. After retiring he continued to serve as an interim pastor for numerous churches in southeastern Tennessee.

At the time of his death he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he had previously pastored.

Survivors include Jodie, his loving and devoted wife of 60 years; son, Mike Roberts (wife Patricia); daughter, Robin Hicks (husband Scott); and five grandchildren: David Hicks (wife Tami), Tyler Roberts, Laura Harris (husband Kyle) and Brad Roberts and Brannon Roberts.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 23, 2010, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Damon Patterson officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens led by the Rev. Arris Cavender.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Hicks, Tyler Roberts, Brad Roberts, Kyle Harris, Don Gaines and Dean Ownby. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Chase, Bill Chastain, Delmer Gooden, Arnold Guy, Don Howard, Hugh Lett, Duel Ownby, Jack Ownby, Rev. Bill Walker, Rev. Lake Walker, J.W. Walters, Wylie Wooten, and J.L.Rogers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home today.
