The local Cleveland squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is kicking off its 2010 Wreaths Across America Campaign.

This campaign honors the veterans of our nation’s military by laying wreaths on their headstones during the holidays.

The Cleveland squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will be offering wreath sponsorships for $15 a wreath.

Wreaths will be laid on the headstones of veterans at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga on Dec. 11, 2010. Cadets and adults from the Cleveland squadron will participate in the wreath laying.

Wreaths Across America began in 1991 when the Worcester Wreath Company donated Maine wreaths to be laid on the headstones of veterans at Arlington National Cemetery.

The Cleveland squadron of the Civil Air Patrol has been associated with Wreaths Across America for two years. This year, their goal is 200 sponsorships. Anyone interested in sponsoring a wreath can call or e-mail Capt. John Young at 650-0959 or JohnYoungCAP@ gmail.com or come to one of the squadron meetings on Tuesday between 6 and 9 p.m. at 245 Sequoia Road N.W., Cleveland, TN.
