Ira L. Guinn, 87, of Dalton, Ga., departed this life Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 2010, at the home of his son Ira Edwin Guinn in Cleveland.

He was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Cleveland, the last surviving child of the late William Dee Witt and Lena Phillips Guinn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Marie Ratcliff Guinn; grandson, Anthony Guinn and a great-grandson, Mattox Breckenridge Mayes.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law: Marie and Dave Stewart of Carlton, Ga., and Gail and Lee Fletcher of Greenville, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law: Allen and Patricia Guinn of Chatsworth, Ga., and Ira Edwin and Brenda Guinn of Cleveland and Wayne and Velinda Guinn of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Deep Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Kidd and the Rev. Joe Spann officiating.

He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the Dawnville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Terry Guinn, Kim Stanfield, Brian Guinn, Chuck Guinn, Lori Long, and Caleb Fletcher will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home in Dalton, Ga.
