“I’m very appreciative of their [Polk County Schools] confidence in me and I’m not sure I’m deserving, but it’s a real honor and I hope that I at least represent our Southeast District well. We have such great people here,” said Moats, during a phone interview.
The Tennessee Department of Education released the names of the nominees for 2011 Supervisor of the Year and 2011 Principal of the Year Wednesday.
Moats has been employed with the Polk County School System for 34 years. She began her career as a teacher and after seven years became a supervisor over various divisions. Currently, she serves as the supervisor of secondary education and heads the career and technical education division.
Moats was born in Bradley County and is a graduate of Bradley Central High School. She is also a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She has lived in Polk County for nearly 35 years.
Other nominees for the 2011 Supervisor of the Year are Dianne Williams of Cheatham County Schools, Debbie Doster of Weakley County Schools, Wanda Lane of Morgan County Schools, Susan Kiernan of Washington County Schools, Marcia Melton of Cannon County Schools, Scott Gaines of Maury County Schools, Tim Rogers of Henderson County Schools and Clark Knight of Shelby County Schools.
The Tennessee Department of Education will hold a banquet in Nashville Sept. 20 to announce the winners of the awards.
