Audition dates are Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. and Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the historic Gem Theater in Etowah. The cast will include 8 boys and 9 girls between the ages of 6 and 13 as well as 4 males and 6 females between the ages of 20 and 50.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will open Nov. 26 and run for three weekends. A special school matinee will be performed Dec. 7 and teachers are encouraged to make reservations for their schools as soon as possible.
The play centers on the Herdmans, the terror of their town. When a couple struggling to put on a a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdmans kids, the most inventively nastiest kids you could meet. Chaos results. They meet the Christmas story head on and their version of what happened long ago in Bethlehem helps everyone to rediscover its true meaning.
Barbara Robinson’s book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has been a family favorite since 1972. The book has been called “One of the best Christmas books ever,” by Publishers Weekly and “An American classic,” by McCall’s Magazine.
Director LaMone Rose said, “We are excited again this year to be honoring the requests of our audience as the Players bring this hilarious Christmas story to the Gem Stage.”
The Players holiday dinner and a show will be offered on Dec. 4 and 11 beginning with dinner at the L&N Depot and the show at the Gem Theater.
