When the LifeForce helicopter leaves the ground without a patient on board, it is usually not a good sign at the scene.

Linda Daugherty, 59, died shortly after crashing with a vehicle driven by Richard Minor, 27, according to Evie West, information officer for the Cleveland Police Department. The crash occurred Thursday on Mouse Creek Road shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Minor’s full-size Ford pickup truck was overturned on its side. Daugherty’s SUV was in its original lane of travel, but facing the opposite direction of her reported travel route, according to officers on the scene.

Emergency crews were on the scene within minutes of the crash which occurred on Mouse Creek Road near Grace Community Church. Daugherty was trapped inside a small Pontiac SUV. Minor was ambulatory at the scene, but taken to SkyRidge Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Cleveland Fire Department firefighters worked feverishly to free Daugherty from her vehicle while Bradley County Emergency Medical Service paramedics attended her. She was eventually freed from the vehicle and transported by ground via BCEMS.

LifeForce’s helicopter was on standby at the scene, but left without a patient. CPD crime scene investigators responded to the scene to document and collect evidence and are continuing the investigation into the cause of the deadly crash.
