The Lee University Lady Flames Volleyball team has produced their first Player of the Week award this season, as the honor was given to Arlene Ferreira for the week ending September 20. Ferreira is a new addition to the squad, having transferred to Lee this fall from the University of Texas-Brownsville.
For the week, Ferreira, a junior from Uberlandia, Brazil, had 23 kills and 27 digs, leading the Lady Flames to victory in both of their matches. The first win came Tuesday evening in straight sets over SSAC-opponent Brenau University. The most anticipated match of the week came Friday night as the Lady Flames, No.3 in the NAIA poll, beat Emory University, No.3 in the NCAA Div.III poll, in straight sets.
Ferreira has been an integral part of the Lee Volleyball team’s 12-0 start. The Lady Flames will put that perfect record on the line two more times this week, hosting Union College (Ky.) and Columbia College (S.C.). The non-conference matchup with Union will be played Wednesday at 7 p.m., with the Columbia match taking place Saturday at 1 p.m. in Paul Dana Walker Arena.
