Handing the Lady Owls their first district loss of the season, the Lady Mustangs dropped the first (23-25) and third games (11-25) but won the second (25-19) and fourth (25-17) before taking the tie breaker by a 15-8 margin at “The Barn.”
Walker Valley improves to 21-11 overall this season and 6-4 in the 5-AAA race. The Lady Mustangs will get a few days off before taking their home court against Baylor on Monday.
Coach Judy Pruett’s team was paced by seniors Kayla Sewell, Karis Terpstra and Madison Akin in Tuesday’s victory.
The 6-foot Sewell powered down 11 kills, served up 10 winners, including a pair of aces, and blocked three Lady Owl shots.
Terpstra collected eight kills while Akin helped out with 25 digs, a dozen service points and a trio of aces.
Catlin Geren handed out 27 assists in the victory, plus had eight service points, five blocks and a trio of kills.
Morgan Elrod added 16 digs to the winning effort while Leslie Steel had 10 service points, including an ace, plus four kills.
Bristol Snider garnered a half dozen kills, five service points and a block, while Katie Wilds had a pair of kills and a block for the victors.
