She worked at American Uniform Company, but was a homemaker for most of her life.
She was a very active member of Blue Ridge Temple Baptist Church where she loved to sing. She was very devoted to her family and friends and especially her husband with whom she had the kind of love that could create miracles.
She loved to sew, especially quilts, and cook her home-grown vegetables. She was always there to lend a helping hand, comfort where needed and never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.D. and Alice Ledford; great-nephew, Dale Woody; and her husband, J.D. Toomey.
Survivors include her daughter, Drucilla Taylor and husband, Bob; granddaughter, Rachael Gregory and husband, Brandon: and sister, Loreta Ellis, all of Old Fort; brother, Max Ledford and wife, Helen, of Cleveland; six nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and special nieces: Megan Toomey and Casey Trantham; and special nephew Caleb Toomey.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Revs. Leroy Elliot and Steve Beavers officiating.
