GRAND REOPENING — Cooke’s Food Store on Keith Street celebrated its grand reopening Wednesday to mark the completion of a massive remodeling project and to commemorate the company’s 75th anniversary which comes in 2011. Cooke’s Food Store is Cleveland’s only home-grown, home-operated family grocery. Its president is Dan Cooke, a third-generation grocer, who is cutting the ribbon in the photograph above. Cooke’s Food Store was founded in 1936 in downtown Cleveland by Jesse M. Cooke whose son, Carl, helped to open it and who eventually took over the business. Dan Cooke is Carl’s son and J.M. Cooke’s grandson. Dan’s daughters, Britney Cooke and Lindsey Wagner, also work for the company and are fourth-generation grocers. A huge crowd of local government, Chamber of Commerce and company officials, and Cooke’s customers, assembled for the noon ribbon-cutting. Banner photo, DONNA KAYLOR
