Catherine Louise Ownby

Catherine Louise Ownby, 80, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1942, to the late Heber and Beulah McCoy.

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church. Catherine taught Sunday school for several years at Sunrise Baptist Church. She enjoyed going camping and sitting by the fireplace, reading and quilting. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Mel Calloway; and sister-in-law, Marlene McCoy.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Frank C. Ownby; son, Tim Ownby; daughter, Teresa (James) Patterson; siblings: Sue Calloway, Polly (Ronald) Flowers and James McCoy; grandchildren: Cricket Patterson, Emily (Chris) Headrick and Tia Patterson;  and great-grandson, Barrett James Headrick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, with Pastor Ray Cheatham and Tim Cheatham officiating and Danny Cheatham doing the eulogy. Music will be provided by Pam Dixon and Linda Tinsley.

Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Chris Headrick, Danny Cheatham, Tim Walker, Tanner Walker, Dean Ownby and Mervin Ownby serving as pallbearers.  Ronald Flowers will be the honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
