Gary L. Ownby Sr.

Gary L. Ownby Sr., 76, a lifetime resident of Cleveland, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Erlanger Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Watt and Dorotha Ownby.

Gary is survived by his children, Lisa (David) Dailey and Lane (Teri) Ownby; grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Ownby, Madison Colgan, Taylor Ownby and Spencer (Haylee) Dailey; great-grandson, Garrett Ownby; his former wife and friend, Susan Ownby; and his “bestest buddy,” his dog, Jake. He has one brother, Dwight (Betty) Ownby; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary retired from AT&T. He loved hunting, especially waterfowl, and has gone on several wonderful hunting trips with family and friends through the years. He worked on the family farm his entire life and was always there to give advice and love to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

In 2004, he chose to donate his body to the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology department. He was very honored to be able to do that.

There will be a Celebration of Life from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at 5110 Trewhitt Road SE, Cleveland.
