Gary Lee Griffin, 72, a 30-year resident of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
Born May 30, 1949, in Cleveland, he was in the first graduating class of Cleveland High in 1967. He retired as a lieutenant from Florida state law enforcement and worked 14 years with the Cherokee Council Boy Scouts.
Gary was a lifelong fan of FSU Seminoles and the Atlanta Braves. But first and foremost, he was a child of God, and a devoted husband and father.
Preceded in death by his father, Benjamin R. Griffin Jr., Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 30-plus years, Janis M. Griffin of Chattanooga; mother, Martha “Lucy” Griffin of Cleveland; four daughters, Ronda Ellison (Jody) of Live Oak, Fla., Dana Johnson (Jason) of St. Augustine, Fla., Leigh Humkey (Chris) of Ringgold, Ga., and Lori Brown (Harold) of Hixson; six grandchildren, Emily Dann (Robert), Benjamin Humkey (Samantha), Jacob Ellison, Zoe Ellison, and Payton and Taylor Johnson.
Services will be on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 1:30 p.m., at The Village of Ashwood Clubhouse, 2400 Baskette Way, Chattanooga, TN 37421 with Pastor Tony Walliser officiating.
A memorial will be conducted for friends and family at the Big Springs Baptist Church in Cleveland — time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Silverdale Baptist Church Building Fund.
