James Culey


James Culey, 53, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a resident of Cleveland for 42 years.

He loved writing and authored several books. He enjoyed cycling and even rode from Cleveland to Knoxville. His favorite game was Dungeons & Dragons — a game he enjoyed since middle school.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Culey and Bonnie Kitchen Culey; and his grandparents, Moses and Grace Kitchen, James B. Culey and Elsie Whatenby.

He leaves behind to treasure his memory, his siblings, Erna Fella, Vickie Smith, Karen Helton and Martha Griffith; nephews, Ryan Kertesz, Shawn Kertesz, Erin Fella, Evan Fella and Vance Griffith; and nieces, Alicia Mulbarak, Amy Helton, Amelia Walters and Jennifer Griffith.

There will be a memorial service to honor James on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at B&B Marina, 117 Marina Drive NW, Charleston, TN 37310.
