Jane Gaut Knox

Jane Gaut Knox, 85, died, surrounded by family on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022.

Jane was born in Cleveland. In 1978, she moved to Augusta, Georgia, to work as head nurse of Open Heart and Recovery at University Hospital. She later worked as head nurse of Augusta Plastic Surgery. She was a faithful member of Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. She was an avid bike rider and enjoyed camping. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was very proud of her family.

Family members include her children, Mary Borders, Maggie S. Douglas (Pat), Ted Smith (Karen) and Webb Smith (Debbie); 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Callaway (Ben).

She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Ann Knox; children, Julie Headrick and Charley Smith; brother, Thomas J. Knox Jr.; and her special friend: Lynn Stevens.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at noon at Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Father Mark Ross celebrant.

Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, beginning at 11:15 a.m. at St Mary.
