Johnny Davis Cheek, 77, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1944, in Athens, to the late J.D. Cheek and Lois Cheek. Johnny was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Cohutta, Georgia; he was an avid gardener, Atlanta Braves fan and loved watching "Gunsmoke."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his previous wife of 22 years, Marcella Cheek; and brother, Wayne Cheek.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Cheek; son, Jeremy Cheek of Cleveland; daughters, Lisa (Duane) Hamby of Cleveland and Gwen (Bruce) Compton of Pikeville; siblings, Robert (Barbara) Cheek, Margaret Sue (Ronnie) Shoemaker, Ricky (Kim) Cheek, Hazel (Jimmy) Colachicco and Danny Cheek; sister-in-law, Darlene Cheek; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at East Cleveland Baptist Church, followed by the service at 3 p.m. Preachers, Clay Sutton, Bruce Compton and Duane Hamby, will officiate the service.
Burial will be held at Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland following the service.
