Lorraine Alton, 94, a resident of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, in a local healthcare facility.
She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and she was the daughter of the late Ola Mae Eaves White and Mildra White. Her husband of 61 years, the Rev. William D. Alton; and her brother, Harry White, also preceded her in death.
Along with her husband, they served as missionaries for more than 50 years to many countries. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality, and enjoyed cooking and housekeeping, considering everyone with whom she associated as part of her family. She enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting, and loved teaching others to craft. Watching and feeding the birds in her backyard was a favorite pastime. She was bilingual in English and Spanish, and she also served as a translator. She enjoyed taking care of babies and children, and she would also volunteer at the Caring Place. She was a member of the Westmore Church of God.
Survivors include her daughter, Christine "Chris" Winterling (George) of Stuart, Florida; grandchildren, Cassie Quinones (Jorge) of Miami, Florida, and Trevor Drushal (Jani) of North Palm Beach, Florida; great-grandchildren, Jared, Jaylin, Janelle Quinones, Aidan and Lily Drushal; and extended family and friends.
The Remembrance of Life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Westmore Church of God with Pastor Kelvin Page, the Rev. Roland Vaughan and the Rev. Wendell Smith officiating. Friends will also be sharing.
Interment will follow in the Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Jared Quinones, Aidan Drushal, Bedford Smith, Douglas Leroy, Ollie Lee and Dudley Pyeatt will serve as casket bearers.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Mission's Department, Church of God International Offices, 2490 Keith St. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday at Westmore Church of God.
