Posted

Mary Elise Putman Sellers, 93, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2021, into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after an extended illness.

She was surrounded by her family close beside her.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt, sister, friend and mentor to all her beloved family.

Her husband Ron’s tribute to his wife of 75 years is from Proverbs 31, verses 10 and 26-27: “Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies” and “She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teachings of kindness is on her tongue. She looks to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Estelle Putman, and father, Billie P.  Putman, of Lawrenceburg; brother, James (Bud) Putman (Shirley) of Lawrenceburg; sisters: Clara Putman Dotson (Chester) of Franklin, Lois Putman Flannigan (Andy) of Florence, Ala., Christine Putman Swafford of Nashville, and Loucille Putman of Lawrenceburg; niece, Margaret Putman Callahan; nephew, Jack Putman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Melvin (Elsie) Sellers of Franklin, and L.C. Greene and Dorothy (Alex) Ferrell of Nashville.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Vance Sellers Sr. of Cleveland; five children: Linda Susan Sellers Arp (Bennie) of Knoxville, Ronald V. Sellers Jr. (Martha) of Columbia, Randy Sellers (Heather Walker) of Cleveland,  E. Brian Sellers (Laura) of Knoxville, and Laura Sellers Caylor (Eddie) of Cleveland; 18  grandchildren: Ken (Camelia) Arp of Greenville, S.C., Brett (Shannon) Arp of Washington, D.C., Matt (Julia) Sellers of Dunwoody, Ga., David (Heather Cooper) Sellers of Murfreesboro, Eric (Heather Hamilton) Sellers of Chattanooga, Ben (Alexis) Sellers of Nashville, Scott (Brittany) Sellers of Athens, Jane Sellers Benson (John) of Knoxville, Kevin A. A native of Lawrenceburg, she was a 1944 graduate of Lawrence County High School, and a 1946 graduate of Nashville Business College.

She was an active and devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland. Elise dearly loved her family and friends — entertaining, baking and preparing sumptuous meals for all on every birthday, holiday and other special occasions.

She remembered and sent birthday and anniversary cards to every family member and never missed sending one. Her hobbies include caring for her beautiful flower gardens, painting still-life and landscape scenes, antiquing, and going to estate auctions and collecting beautiful glassware and china that she has shared with our family members over the years.

The family gives special thanks to her dedicated caregivers, Kim Rogers, Serita Wells, Wanda Allen and Denise Satterfield, for their sweet care and love they have given her and our family over these past several months of her illness and for the Caris Healthcare Hospice team of nurses and staff.

The family will hold a private family interment service at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland on Thursday, May 27, 2021, with receiving of friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 5:30 p.m.

Arrangements are by Companion Funeral & Cremation Service, 2415 Georgetown Road N.W., Cleveland, TN 37311.
